What glitter DTF transfers are
A glitter DTF transfer is a standard direct to film transfer printed onto glitter film instead of clear film. The sparkle is in the film itself, under the ink, so it shows through the design rather than sitting on top of it. You get full color artwork with a metallic base, in one press, with no layering.
It is not glitter vinyl and it is not a glitter powder finish. With vinyl you cut and weed every shape. With glitter DTF the whole design comes off our printer finished, including gradients and small text.

Application
How to press glitter DTF
The sequence is the same as our standard transfers with one difference that matters: glitter is a cold peel.

Press the empty garment
Press the empty garment at 300°F for 10 seconds. This gets the moisture out of the fabric.

Press
Press the transfer at 300°F for 10 seconds. Pressure: 60 to 80 PSI on an auto or pneumatic press, medium to firm on a manual press.

Let it go completely cold before peeling
Cold means cold, not warm to the touch. Peel a glitter transfer early and you will most likely ruin it.

Seal
Seal at 300°F for 10 seconds with a teflon sheet on top.
Presses vary, so test one before running a batch. Press on a flat area with no seams underneath.
Design tips
What colors work best over glitter
The glitter base reflects light through the ink, so the effect changes with how much white underbase the design carries.
Bold, saturated colors
Read cleanly and keep the sparkle visible around the edges.
Black and dark navy
Give the strongest contrast against the metallic base.
Pastels and light tints
Can wash out, because the underbase needed to make them opaque covers most of the glitter.
Designs with open negative space
Work best of all. Wherever there is no ink, you see pure glitter.
Compatibility
Where glitter DTF works
Cotton, poly blends, fleece and canvas: cheer and dance apparel, birthday and bachelorette shirts, team names, tote bags and hats. It handles washing the same way our standard transfers do when it is sealed properly.
The same fabric warnings apply. Moisture wicking and UV treated garments resist adhesion, and some polyesters bleed dye into the transfer under heat. Cotton piqué polos sometimes carry those finishes without stating it.

Questions we get
Can you add glitter to a regular DTF transfer?
Not after the fact. The glitter is in the film, so it has to be printed on glitter film from the start. Order the design as a glitter transfer.
Can I layer glitter DTF with other transfers?
Yes. Press the glitter piece first, let it go cold, peel, then press the second piece on top with a teflon sheet. Keep the total number of presses on one spot low.
Is glitter DTF hot peel or cold peel?
Cold peel, always. Our custom gang sheets are hot peel, so if you order both in the same box, keep them apart.
Does the glitter come off in the wash?
No, it is sealed under the ink and the film. Wash inside out in cold water and hang dry.
Can you put rhinestones over it?
You can, though most shops use glitter DTF instead of rhinestones because it survives washing better and costs a fraction of the labor.
Is the glitter film certified?
Our inks, film and powder are all OEKO-TEX certified.
